The A1/A6 investment involved the upgrade of 18km of two three-lane highways between Amsterdam and Almere into five-lanes, at a cost of €700 million. DIF owns a 43% stake in the project company, with our consortium partners Boskalis, Hochtief and VolkerWessels owning the remaining shares.

The A1/A6 is part of the wider Schiphol-Amsterdam-Almere (SAA) highway extension program to improve connections across the whole region. The road opened to traffic well ahead of schedule in the summer of 2017, has a concession length of 25 years and was the first project of five similar projects to reach completion – hence the consortium name: SAAone. Road capacity has been significantly increased, traffic time reduced and the overall quality of the environment much improved.
The project includes two record-breaking structures. The Vechtzicht aqueduct close to Muiden, east of Amsterdam, is the largest in the Netherlands and the widest in the world at 65 metres. The 255-metre railway bridge over the A1 near Muiderberg, meanwhile, is the longest railway arch bridge in Europe.
